Our take

If you want EVERYTHING from Castlexperience in one booking (rack railway + monastery + basilica + winery + tapas), this is the option. For €59 (the offer drops it lower) you get 7-8 hours with all the Montserrat icons and Catalan oenology included. Hard to do better at this price. Worth knowing: does NOT include the Moreneta (you'd need to book it separately if you want it). And groups are large (20 people). But for the price and coverage, it remains our full-day recommendation for anyone wanting rack railway + winery. The Spanish-language tapas tour option is a real differentiator: few operators offer it explicitly. For Spanish speakers who value having guide in their language without bilingual interruptions, this is the variant.

  • 10th-century winery visit (if you select option)
  • Three wine tastings (if you select option)

The experience

What you'll see

This is the all-inclusive version of Castlexperience: rack railway, basilica, winery and tapas or lunch in a single 7-8 hour excursion. For anyone wanting to see Montserrat and experience Catalan oenology without making two separate plans, it's the most complete option.

  • Montserrat rack railway: historic cog-rail funicular, one of the iconic images of the visit.
  • Benedictine monastery: 1-hour guided tour with local guide.
  • Skip-the-line basilica: access to the church interior + tasting of traditional liqueurs and artisan pastries made by monks.
  • Oller del Mas winery (10th century): medieval castle converted into organic winery. Walk through vineyards, guided visit to the barrel room, tasting of 3 organic wines.
  • Tapas or full lunch (based on booked option): Catalan dishes paired with the wines.

How it works

Meet at the Estació del Nord (Carrer de Nàpols, 68), Castlexperience office section B. Mandatory check-in 20 minutes early. Single departure at 9:45.

Barcelona-Montserrat journey: 1 hour by coach. Upon arrival, rack railway ride to the monastery (12 minutes with views). 2-hour guided tour of the complex + free time to taste artisan liqueurs and pastries. Skip-the-line basilica access.

Coach down to Oller del Mas (30 minutes), in the Bages region. There: vineyard walk + winery visit + tasting of 3 wines. Based on booked option, tapas brunch or multi-course lunch with wine pairing.

Return to Barcelona in 1 hour. Total: 7-8 hours per option.

Who I'd recommend it to

  • If you want EVERYTHING in one booking: rack railway + monastery + basilica + winery + tapas/lunch.
  • If you have the full day free and want to optimize.
  • If you're interested in Catalan oenology (Oller del Mas is a real winery, not a tourist set).
  • If you need Spanish-only explanation WITHOUT English pauses (the only variant explicitly offering it).
  • If your budget is €59-70 per person.

Who I would NOT recommend it to

Tour not wheelchair accessible. Service animals are allowed. For limited mobility, contact before booking.

Frequently asked questions

Difference vs EXB-22 (same operator without rack railway)?
This DOES include rack railway + winery + tapas. EXB-22 only has winery + tapas (without rack railway). Price difference is ~€12 (59 vs 47). If the iconic rack railway matters to you, this is the choice.
Tapas vs full lunch: which to choose?
Tapas: light experience with 3 wines (more social, faster, ideal if you just want to try). Full lunch: multi-course sit-down with pairings (longer, more formal). Decide based on whether you want to eat well or just sample the wines. Price difference between options is usually ~€10-15.
Is the Moreneta included?
No, the Black Madonna touching ticket is NOT included in any Castlexperience variant. If you want it, try to access on your own during free time (usually sells out) or book a variant that explicitly includes it.
What is Oller del Mas like?
10th-century castle converted into an organic winery, owned by the same family for 36 generations. Their wines are organic and have won real awards (one of them «Best Wine of Catalonia 2018»). They produce reds, whites and sweets with native grape varieties (Picapoll, Mandó, Sumoll).
Is there also a Spanish-language tapas tour?
Yes. It's the only Castlexperience variant that offers a tapas tour specifically in Spanish. For native speakers who prefer guide in their language without English pauses, this variant is ideal.
